In July 2005, Ranbaxy Pharmaceuticals Inc. received tentative approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to manufacture and market glimepiride tablets in 3 milligram and 6 milligram strengths.
The brand version of glimepiride, Amaryl®, has annual sales of $336.6 million. Amaryl® is a registered trademark of Aventis Pharmaceuticals Inc., based in Bridgewater, N.J.
